About Our Team!

We are the west bloomfield high school equestrian team. We have only been around for a few years but we are still a part of MIHA and we will be a part of it for the rest of time.
We started out in July of 2012 in a large classroom with almost 50 people intrested in joining. But for whatever reason, only seven people joined. The team quickly formed a strong bond with each other, and having only seven people, it really made the team a close knit group.
We had practices in the summer twice a week, and we had a great trainer. We improved our skills in hunt seat and gaming and western, and when the first show day rolled around, we were all ready. We went, we tried and we came back home happy. First show season was a success. We couldn't wait for the next season.
As we waited for it to come around, we gained four new team members. They were all just what our team needed, western and jump riders. We welcomed them happily onto our team. And the next show season arrived in a rush of activity. We got ready with our new trainer; meeting once a month with the team and practicing as much as possible at our own barn. We also had an equestrian team camp where we learned our patterns and gaming skills. We were more than ready for the shows now. After the horses were bathed and their tack was packed up, we were on our way.
There at milford high school, we made many personal victories. We all placed at least once, and we all had a great time! We all came home at the end of each show with a smile on our faces and a happy horse by our side.
In 2015, we lost members, but the best thing happened. We gained grooms! People who are the team's helpers and are there to assist the riders however they can. They were the main highlight of the year. We also got a new rider. The team all became a close family, and the horses were all happy to be our team member. We had a few new horses on the team and they quickly proved their worth, jumping and running their hearts out for us. We went to the shows excited to see what we could do.
Some members got points right away, others waited until the last meet to show off. But each team member won something. We all enjoyed the year and were sad to see the year go. We loved the victory.
But our team isnt just about winning or placing. Unlike most teams, we are in the compitions not just to win, but to learn. To learn about our favorite animal and enjoy ourselves. And while winning does feel nice, it's not the only thing to look forward to. We believe in free spirits, we believe in borrowing freedom, and we believe in the horses.
